A research project on building the healthy water balance and promoting the high-quality protection and utilization of territorial space (Phase I) was launched in Beijing on May 18, 2023.

More than 50 CAE members and experts participated in the launch meeting, which also discussed the implementation plan of the project. Recognizing the importance of the project, they provided constructive opinions and guidance for specific research tasks catering to the country’s strategic development goals and plans for 2035 and 2050.

Zhang Jianyun, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, urged researchers to promptly absorb expert opinions in refining the implementation plan, with priorities on the strategic and forward-looking issues related to national water security, as well as protection and utilization of territorial space. Zhang called for efforts to enhance coordination and promote in-depth studies in order to offer strategic suggestions.
