The fight against the current pandemic at COVID-19 requires and calls for greater international experience and solidarity.
The French Académie Nationale de Médecine (NAM), the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) have had friendly and sustained links of cooperation and scientific exchanges since many years, particularly alternate joint meetings in “Les Pensières”/Annecy/France and in China.
From the start, we were given the mission of advising the public authorities on public health issues and health risks, particularly those related to infectious diseases and epidemics.
On Tuesday 21rd April 2020, during a videoconference, we shared our experience on health and scientific issues concerning the evolution of the current epidemic COVID-19 in France and China.
These experiences dealt with 4 topics: public health and containment, emergency treatments in intensive care units, the care of patients out of hospital in general practice, immunotherapy and cytokines storm.
We recalled the importance of the lockdown /containment system, the wearing of masks, virus testing, serum immune response testing, urgent therapeutic, intensive care and vaccine research.
We recommend close consultation between national health and political authorities in the light of the recommendations proposed by well-known scientific authorities, such as French NAM, CAE and CAMS. We also recommend to strengthen the construction of public health system in each country and to strengthen international coordination and cooperation in fighting against COVID-19.
