On November 4, 2023, the acceptance meeting was held in Beijing for research on biosecurity in China’s animal husbandry sector, a strategic research and consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) led by CAE member Zhang Gaiping.

The acceptance committee consisted of several CAE members and financial experts. More than 20 members of the project team and relevant experts also attended the meeting.

Biosecurity is crucial for protecting public health, food safety, ecological safety, and the high-quality development of the livestock industry. China is adopting an integrated approach of human and animal health while actively promoting animal disease control measures. Against this background, the project team used a variety of methods, such as field research, surveys, expert panel discussions, comparative studies, case studies and inductive reasoning, to identify the main biosecurity risks at livestock farms and the current status of risk prevention and control. The team analysed the primary issues and proposed a strategic framework, main tasks, and key projects for biosecurity. The project resulted in one comprehensive research report and two CAE member proposals.
