2025 IKCEST-ISTIC joint training successfully held
From August 25 to 28, 2025, the International Training Workshop on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, co-hosted by the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the auspices of UNESCO (IKCEST) and the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC), and organized by Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS Berhad) and the IKCEST Silk Road Training Base, was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 67 participants, including engineers, researchers, government officials, university faculty and students from 11 countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cambodia, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Iran, Jordan and Yemen), took part in this training program.

At the opening ceremony, Mohd Basyaruddin Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the ISTIC Council, and Liu Chang, Secretary-General of IKCEST and Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), delivered speeches. They respectively briefed the audience on the development of their two centres, and both expressed the intention to further deepen cooperation in the field of engineering science and technology, continuously improve the quality of training programs, and contribute to the capacity building of developing countries. Saat Shukri Embong, Chief Executive Officer and Director of MIMOS, and Lee Yee Chang, Honorary Chairman of ISTIC, also delivered speeches on the occasion. Chen Ling, Vice Dean of the School of Continuing Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Tian Feng, Prof. of the Faculty of Electronic and Information Engineering of the university, were invited to give special lectures.
Themed Application of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in the Industry 4.0 Era, the training program adopted a diversified format integrating thematic lectures, interactive exchanges and field visits. The curriculum covered cutting-edge topics such as AI-empowered transformation of higher education, application of new-generation AI technologies, and the evolution from artificial intelligence to quantum intelligence. The field visit was arranged at the MIMOS Technologies. This four-day training program helped participants gain insights into the cutting-edge knowledge and technologies in artificial intelligence and big data, promoted the exchange and sharing of technical experience and practical achievements among participants from different countries and industries, and enabled them to better apply artificial intelligence in technological innovation practices across various sectors.
