Research to chart path to improve national health
A meeting held online on May 20, 2022 initiated research on development of an engineering organization system for national health management, a sub-topic of a key consulting project by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).
The meeting was presided over by Wang Xingguo, Director of the Office of Presidents Alliance of County Hospitals in China. CAE member Wang Chen, also Vice-president of the CAE and the project leader, and Zhou Shenglai, Director of the Healthy China Leadership Research Centre at the Tsinghua University School of Medicine, also joined the meeting along with experts from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing Hospital, Tianjin Medical University, Capital University of Physical Education and Sports and the CAE Centre for Strategic Studies.
On behalf of the team, Director Wu Jing of the CDC Centre for Chronic and Non-Infectious Disease Control and Prevention, outlined the research from five perspectives – research orientation and goals, research topics and pathways, foundation and progress, innovation and feasibility, and expected results.
In the discussion, Professor Zhou explained global health management from the macro, meso and micro perspectives, and requested that the project make building a consensus the primary goal while developing the associated engineering organization system for the health-for-all initiative.
Wang stressed the concept of “big medicine, big healthcare and big health” and the importance of incorporating health concerns into policies and people’s everyday behavior, thoughts and habits, as well as exploring feasible solutions and means.
