The joint steering group of “Study on China’s Engineering Development Strategy in the Next 20 Years” holds its 3rd meeting at the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) on March 25, 2021. Members of the joint steering group, relevant members of the joint working group, and members of general working group and relevant working groups attended the meeting.

The overall project plan, general working group composition plan and funding plan of the “study on China’s engineering development strategy in next 20 years” were reviewed and approved in the meeting. The “Study on China’s Engineering Development Strategy in the Next 20 Years” project was officially approved and launched.

The Meeting reiterated the significance of joint strategic research of the next 20 years carried out by CAE and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and fully recognised CAE members’ and experts’ efforts in actively undertaking research projects of engineering science and technology strategy and their achieved outcomes. The Meeting emphasized that: first, engineering technologies, engineering sciences, basic research and applied basic research should be closely integrated, and cross-discipline projects and research should be emphasised; second, projects and research should focus both on the next 20 years and the present, and on solving the current core technological problems and working on systematic planning, to propose policies from dimensions of time, space and technologies; third, projects and researches should be selected strictly, and new technologies should be studied and judged. Besides, the results should be obtained at every stage of the research, so as to provide feasible suggestions for the decision-making body.
