Research into restoration of barren hills concluded in Hunan

The concluding and acceptance meeting for the Chinese Academy Engineering strategic research and consulting project A Strategic Study on the Scientific Utilization and Comprehensive Development of Barren Hills and Restored Sloping Land in Southern Chinawas held at a hybrid online-offline session in Changsha, Hunan province on February 25, 2022.

 

Prof. Zou Dongsheng of the project team gave a detailed report on the project, followed by review of the project report and related materials by the review panel with profound questioning and discussion. 

 

The panel concluded that based on the field research, case analysis, expert seminars and repeated consultation, the team then analyzed the current situation, characteristics and utilization of the resources for barren hills and restored sloping land in southern China. It systematically analyzed the constraints, dilemmas and main problems in the utilization of such areas, and then summarized the findings into six comprehensive development models and proposed corresponding initiatives. 

 

In the view of the panel, the project had a complete research system, adequate research, informative materials, highly innovative and forward-looking results and targeted and feasible policy recommendations. It will provide a valuable reference for decision making on scientific utilization and comprehensive management of resources on barren hills and restored sloping land, the building of ecological civilization and the harmonious coexistence between man and nature. 

 

The panel agreed that the project completed the planned tasks, achieved the expected objectives, and decided to approve and accept the final report.
