As a key consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), the "Research on the pathways and key tasks in the transportation industry’s low-carbon development" initiative was launched at the academy on April 25, 2022 in an onsite-online hybrid format.

CAE member Lu Chunfang described the background and main research ideas of the project, identified the research focus on four modes of transportation – roads, railway, water transport and aviation – and stressed the goals in promoting high-quality development driven by comprehensive and green transformation of the sector.

The meeting also heard reports by the project team and each sub-project group, while experts exchanged ideas on issues including the research project’s scope, its implementation and the economic benefits. The meeting concluded with a summary by Lu of the project’s organization and management.
