The "Strategic Research of Green Agriculture Development under the ‘Dual Carbon’ Goal Background," a consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), held the mid-term meeting to promote its progress in Beijing on November 6, 2022.

Studies showed that China’s agriculture is transitioning from intensive farming, which features high use of inputs and high crop yield, to green farming with characteristics of

high-yield, high-efficiency and high-quality, and has already made positive progress in this endeavor.

In the new era, the development of green agriculture needs coordination among multiple goals, interaction at different levels, coupling and upgrading of diverse systems, multidisciplinary research, integration of various players, and implementation through top-down or bottom-up approaches. The project highlighted experiences of promoting green agriculture in the basin of the Erhai Lake in Yunnan Province.

In recognizing the research progress, CAE members also suggested that the research in the later stage should bear in mind the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," with the research results effectively meeting the major national needs such as Healthy China and Beautiful China initiatives and “Dual Carbon” goal.
