On September 4, 2023, the Smart China Expo 2023 opened in Chongqing Municipality. President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter.

Li Xiaohong, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), attended the opening ceremony, where he emphasized the academy's commitment to implementing the spirit in President Xi’s letter and supporting Chongqing's high-quality development strategy.

Zhou Ji, Honorary Chairman of the Governing Board the CAE, Zhong Zhihua, Vice President of the CAE, and CAE members also participated in the opening ceremony. CAE members Wang Jian and Li Keqiang made reports on the "Urban Digitalization Reinventing the Automobile" and "Advancing the Development of Intelligent Connected Vehicles in China’s Way", respectively.

Themed "Pooling together Wisdom and Strength," the event featured 19 professional forums and five competitions, focusing on 27 subsectors across four fields –intelligent connected and new energy vehicles, smart equipment and manufacturing, next-generation IT, and smart city. It also facilitated collaboration between industry leaders and innovative SMEs.
