Research on the high-quality development of China's swine industry, a key consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) led by CAE member Chen Huanchun, was launched in Beijing on January 13, 2024. Over 30 participants included those from the CAE Centre for Strategic Studies and the project team attended the meeting.

Chen introduced the project’s background, followed by a detailed report from the project team. Focusing on six core aspects of the pig farming industry - breeds, nutrition, disease, environment, equipment, and processing - the project aims to thoroughly explore challenges across the industry chain, scientifically predict trends, structures and scale, and determine the direction of technology and product R&D. This will lead to policy recommendations and major engineering proposals for the sector’s high-quality development.
