Symposium in Zhuhai advances development of life sciences and health industry

The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Symposium on Engineering Science and Technology, themed “New Quality Productive Forces Driving High-Quality Development of the Life Sciences and Health Industry”, was held at the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Zhuhai City, on December 7 and 8, 2024.


The conference aimed to promote integration between life sciences, clinical medicine, and healthcare entrepreneurship. It was co-hosted by the CAE’s Medicine and Health Academic Division and Zhejiang University, with guidance from the Chinese Medical Association (CMA), Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA), and the China Association of Chinese Medicine (CACM). The event was jointly organized by the Zhejiang University Education Foundation, Jinan University, and other institutions.


Participants included Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress, Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Shen Hongbing, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission and Minister of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, and 29 CAE Members. Also in attendance were experts and scholars from the government of the Macao SAR, CMA, CMDA, CACM, Zhejiang University, University of Macao, Macao University of Science and Technology, as well as those from the medical, scientific, and industrial sectors.


The two-day symposium featured a diverse and comprehensive agenda, including a main forum and a workshop titled “Health Promotes New Quality Productive Forces” hosted by CAE Members. Several parallel sub-forums were also held on a wide range of topics, such as hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine and organ protection, infectious disease prevention and control, the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and precision diagnosis and treatment in breast and lung surgery.


The conference served as a major platform to showcase collaborative and innovative achievements in the life and health sciences, fostering exchange and cooperation in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
