The “Research on Improving the Systems and Mechanisms for Modern Infrastructure Development,” a key project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), was launched in Beijing on November 25, 2024.

The launch meeting, chaired by CAE Member Huang Weihe, attracted over 40 participants, including several CAE Members and representatives from the Centre for Strategic Studies under the CAE, the China Railway Society, Tsinghua University, and members of the project team.

The team presented an overview of the research background, organization, main research areas, expected outcomes, key innovations, research timeline and plans. The presentation explored ways to improve the systems and mechanisms underpinning modern infrastructure development across four dimensions: standard improvement, digital and intelligent transformation, coordinated management, and green and low-carbon practices. It also proposed specific strategies for four key sectors: transport, energy, water conservancy, and new types of infrastructure.
