On September 13, Li Xiaohong, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), met in Beijing with a delegation led by Catherine Barthélémy, President of the French National Academy of Medicine. Wang Chen, Vice President of the CAE, also attended the meeting.

The two sides reviewed the past friendly cooperation between the two academies and discussed the theme and agenda for the second China-France Medical symposium to be held in Paris on November 13 and 14 this year.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, both sides agreed to expand collaboration in more areas under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2023 by the four academies – the CAE, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the French National Academy of Medicine, and the National Academy of Technologies of France. Through the annual joint symposium for academy members and experts, efforts will be made to address global challenges and contribute to building a community of common health for mankind.

Participants in the meeting include Christian Boitard, Perpetual Secretary of the French National Academy of Medicine, Patrice Debré, President of the Academy’s International Relations Committee, and officers from the French Embassy in China. Tian Qi, Director-General of the CAE Department of International Cooperation, and experts from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences also attended the meeting.
