China-Singapore Symposium on AI Frontiers & Governance held in Shanghai
The China-Singapore Symposium on AI Frontiers & Governance was held in Shanghai on October 28, 2024. Organized by Tongji University, it was co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Academy of Engineering, Singapore (SAEng).
It marked the first joint academic event following the establishment of a formal partnership between the two academies. A total of 14 academy members from both the CAE and SAEng participated in discussions and shared their latest research findings.
Wang Chen, Vice President of the CAE, Ho Teck Hua, President of the SAEng, and Fang Shou’en, Party Chief of Tongji University, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Chen Jianfeng, Secretary-General of the CAE, and Wang Rong, Secretary of the SAEng, described developments at their respective academies, including international cooperation efforts. Lyu Peiming, Executive Vice President of Tongji University, presided over the opening session.
Eleven members from the two academies gave presentations focusing on two themes: “AI Empowering Education, Science, and Technological Innovation” and “AI Empowering a Better Life”. They also engaged in interactive exchanges with the audience during the Q&A session.
More than 200 representatives from government departments, research institutions, and universities attended the symposium in person, while around 30,000 people watched the event live via various streaming platforms.
