On the morning of 29 January 2026, LI Zhongping, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), met with a delegation led by Prof. Carlos Guedes Soares, a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering and a newly elected international member of the CAE in 2025, in Beijing.

    Vice President LI congratulated Prof. Soares on his election as an international member of the CAE and expressed the hope that he would actively serve as a bridge to promote engineering and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and Portugal, particularly between the two academies. Subsequently, both sides introduced the main work of their respective academies, held in-depth discussions focusing on advancing exchanges and cooperation in the field of marine technology and ocean engineering between the two academies, and reached a preliminary consensus on organizing a joint academic symposium. Furthermore, Vice President LI invited Prof. Soares to participate in the development of the CAE's journal Engineering.

    The meeting was also attended by CAE Member YAN Xinping and DING Ning, Deputy Director-General (Acting Head) of the Department of International Cooperation of the CAE.
