The 10th Sino-German Workshop on Industrial Metaverse Successfully Held in Wuhan
On March 23, 2026, the 10th Sino-German Workshop on Industrial Metaverse was successfully held in Wuhan. The workshop was jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), and co-organized by Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the Münchner Kreis. The event brought together approximately 200 participants, including over ten academy members and experts, as well as representatives from universities, research institutions, and enterprises from China and Germany.
At the opening ceremony on the morning of March 23, Prof. Zhou Ji, Honorary Chairman of the Governing Board and Former President of CAE, and Prof. Dr. Michael Zäh, Member of the Executive Board of acatech, delivered opening addresses. They emphasized that the cooperation between the CAE and acatech should serve as a guiding force. By leveraging the complementary strengths of the manufacturing industries in China and Germany, and building bridges through technological innovation and open exchange, both sides can jointly open a new chapter of collaboration in intelligent manufacturing and industrial metaverse. The opening ceremony was moderated by Dr. Ding Ning, Deputy Director-General (Acting Head) of the Department of International Cooperation of CAE.
During the keynote session, thematic presentations, and panel discussion sessions, more than ten academy members and experts from China and Germany delivered presentations and engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics such as AI enabled digital transformation of manufacturing industry, the business of industrial metaverse, industrial metaverse and its applications, AI, high performance computing and industrial metaverse, as well as the elite engineer training. CAE members, including Li Peigen, Guo Dongming, Yang Huayong, Wu Zhiqiang, Zhang Ping, and Chen Xuedong, were invited to give presentations.
On March 24, the German delegates and some Chinese delegates visited several enterprises in Wuhan, including Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. Mengshi Automobile Technology Company, Dongfeng Motor Corporation Research and Development Institute, Yangtze Optical Fiber and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company, and Xiaomi Smart Home Appliances Factory. The visits provided an in-depth look at the latest developments in China’s intelligent manufacturing and emerging industries, offering valuable practical perspectives for exploring the application of industrial metaverse technologies.
The successful convening of this workshop significantly promoted in-depth dialogue between China and Germany on the technological frontiers, application scenarios, and development pathways of industrial metaverse. It holds great significance for advancing the intelligent upgrading of industries and supporting the efforts of both countries to build up their manufacturing sectors.
