On August 21, 2026, Ding Ning, Deputy Director-General (Acting Head) of the Department of International Cooperation (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office) of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), met in Beijing with a delegation led by Yu Hongyu, Executive Head of the Aerospace Research Academy of Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Also present at the meeting was Li Yinghui, Researcher from the Astronaut Center of China among others.

    Ding Ning extended a warm welcome to Yu Hongyu and the delegation. She noted that the CAE stands ready to continue strengthening cooperation with PolyU in academic exchanges and strategic consulting, so as to contribute to building the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area into an international innovation and technology hub and a global leader in scientific and technological innovation.

    Yu Hongyu briefed the delegation on the tasks undertaken by the Aerospace Research Academy of PolyU in China’s manned space program and its future development plans. Delegation members — Cai Jing, Chen Xiaohua, Pan Feng, Yang Lin, Mei Xiaolin and Liu Su — shared the University’s latest progress in aerospace engineering, space medicine and related fields, as well as experience in the commercialization of research findings. They also introduced the planning for the establishment of the Institute for Space Health, and put forward proposals for deepening collaboration with mainland institutions in the aviation and aerospace sector.

    Subsequently, Li Yinghui (Researcher from the Astronaut Center of China), Zhang Zhe (Researcher, Lunar Exploration and Space Engineering Center), and Shi Liaojia (Researcher,  State Key Laboratory of Space Medicine Fundamentals and Application) held in-depth discussions with the delegation on further strengthening cooperation in space medicine and related areas. This exchange has strengthened collaboration between mainland and Hong Kong institutions in aerospace science and technology, and laid a solid foundation for CAE to forge closer ties and deepen cooperation with Hong Kong universities.
