On July 29, 2026, the launch meeting for the International Cooperation Strategic Consultation Project titled Research on Non-Exclusive International Cooperation Mechanism on Materials and Testing Standards was held in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by the Project Leader, Academician Wang Haizhou. Attendees included Academician Li Hongxia; Zhang Xiaogang, Former President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO); Zhang Gang, Former Counselor of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China; Ding Ning, Deputy Director-General (Acting Head) of the Department of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); and more than 30 experts from relevant universities, research institutes, industry associations, and enterprises.

    At the meeting, the project team presented the research background, objectives and tasks, organizational structure, schedule, and expected outcomes; and introduced the formulation procedures and review models of API standards. The academicians and experts present conducted in-depth discussions on the project theme, and put forward opinions and suggestions on highlighting national strategic needs, grasping the non-exclusive nature of technologies, and assessing international demand for diversified standards, further clarifying the practical implementation road-map for the project.

    The meeting required that the project team should fully incorporate the opinions of academicians and experts, identify strategic breakthrough points, select suitable pilot areas in practical implementation, and actively explore a non-exclusive international cooperation mechanism for materials and testing standards based on the principles of openness, innovation, cooperation, sharing, and voluntary participation, so as to facilitate China’s international cooperation in standardization in the field of materials and testing.
