On July 23, 2026, the 29th East Asia Round Table Meeting of Engineering Academies was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This year’s meeting was hosted by the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) on a rotating basis. More than 100 academicians and representatives from the three engineering academies attended the meeting in person. Opening remarks were delivered by Academician Park Jae-woo, Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea; Ding Ning, Deputy Director-General (Acting Head) of the Department of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); and Yuko Hara-Yamamoto, former Vice President of the Engineering Academy of Japan (EAJ).

    The academic discussions focused on the theme “Physics-Informed Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development”, with three sub-topics: Physics-Informed Artificial Intelligence in Next-Generation Industrial Systems, Green Innovation for Sustainable Manufacturing, and Policies, Regulations and International Cooperation for Future Industrial Systems. Nine academicians and experts from the three academies delivered keynote speeches.

    Representing the Chinese side, Academician Tang Lixin, Vice President of Northeastern University; Foreign Academician Zuo-Jun (Max) Shen, Professor at the University of Hong Kong; and Professor Tao Fei from Beihang University, presented reports showcasing China’s latest innovations in industrial artificial intelligence, which received positive feedback from all attendees.

    This Round Table Meeting was the first to be held offline in three years. Twelve academicians from the three countries engaged in in-depth face-to-face discussions, effectively consolidating the trilateral engineering and technological cooperation mechanism. In accordance with the trilateral cooperation arrangement, the 30th Round Table Meeting will be hosted by the CAE on a rotating basis next year.
