Ocean University of China, in the city of Qingdao, Shandong province, held its 3rd Science? Humanity? Future Forum, Oct 18-19, with the themed “Education makes dreams come true”, attracting more than a dozen prominent experts, scientists, and entrepreneurs who came to discuss education and China’s future.

Wang Meng, the school’s advisor and a former cultural minister and writer, addressed the gathering by noting, “This forum started 10 years ago and we’ve explored the connections between education, science, and culture search for the truth, benevolence and beauty for humanity.”

A co-chair of the forum was Guan Huashi, who is also a former president of the school and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, told the participants that he hopes the forum can strike a spark that lights up different thoughts and ideas among so many top experts in many different areas.

The participants examined China’s developments in education, science, and the ecology and raised many questions concerning the quality and flaws of the current education system, society’s changing values, resource and energy constraints, and the growing amounts of environmental pollution.

Also watching the forum proceedings were more than 3,000 teachers and students.
