Council for CAE & CAS Senior Members Society organized a survey and study trip to Xi’an City for a consultation project in education from May 30 to June 3, 2011. Fourteen CAE or CAS senior members participated in this activity, namely, Shi Changxu, Jin Guofan, Yang Fuyu, He Zuoxiu, Jian Shuisheng, Ju Gong, Zhang Guowei, Feng Shuyu, Zhou Jing, Ma Yuanliang, Hou Xun, Wang Yingluo, Yao Mu and Li Peicheng. Participants of this event also included Liu Pengzhi, Counselor of State Council, also the Principal of the Middle School attached to Beijing Renming University. Zhu Jingzhi, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province, met with the research group members. Officials from Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education as well as Science and Technology Department took part in related activities.

While in Xi’an, the research team held discussion meetings with the Fourth Military Medical University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an Secondary School, Xi'an Aircraft Manufacturing Company and other enterprises, with the discussion topic centered on cultivation and training of innovative personnel in China. Also, a Face-to-Face Dialogue section was organized between senior academicians and primary & secondary school students. Both sides covered a wide variety of topics and the exchanges of thoughts proved to be deep and enlightening. Thus both sides expressed their satisfaction with the event. Some students said excitedly that it was a great honor and delight to have this opportunity to communicate with great scientists in China face to face, and senior academicians’ words would act as both precious guidance and driving force for my studies and future. Besides, Senior Academician Shi Changxu, also the top national science and technology award winner, gave a lecture entitled “All about Life” to 5000 students and staff of Northwestern Polytechnical University.
