CAE Honorary Chairman Xu Kuangdi and Six Other CAE Members Attended 2011 Eco-Forum Global, Guiyang

2011 Eco-Forum Global, Guiyang (EFG), organized by the National Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of CPPCC, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction (MHURC), Peking University and Guizhou Provincial People’s Government, co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, China Meteorological Society, China Association of Mayors, China Office of UNDP (United Nations Development Program), UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization), UNEP (United Nations Environment Program), was held from July 16 to 17, 2011 in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. CAE Honorary Chairman Xu Kuangdi and CAE Executive Vice President Pan Yunhe, together with five other CAE Members were invited to and attended the forum. 

Xu made a keynote speech entitled “The Process of Urbanization with Chinese Characteristics” at the forum. In his speech, Xu introduced the urbanization process since the 20th century and analyzed problems facing China’s eco-city construction by using an abundance of accurate data and concrete examples, thus achieved profundity through an easy-to-understand approach, who then successfully demonstrated the brilliant prospects for green development of cities driven by scientific and technological progress and innovation. 

During the forum, the Chinese Academy of Engineering hosted the Technology Forum, in which Honorary Chairman Xu Kuangdi was present, and Executive Vice President Pan Yunhe served as the Chairman, as well as the host for the first half of presentation section. Five CAE Members, namely, Yin Ruiyu, Zou Deci, Xu Delong, Yi Baolian and Zhang Quanxing made presentations named “Circular Economy and Low Carbon Development“, “Ecological, Low-carbon, Livable – a New Form of Urban Development”, “Ecology of Building Materials Industry in China”, “Current Status and Future Prospects of Fuel Cells”, and “Prevention & Treatment of Water Pollution and Clean Production” respectively. CAE Members Yin Ruiyu, Xu Delong and Zhang Xingquan conducted dialogues with enterprises as to how to convert low carbon and emission reduction into new opportunities for them, acting as special guests of the second half of the Technology Forum. Participants agreed that this forum helped them to gain deeper understanding of new materials, new energy forms, new technologies, as well as circular economy, which would definitely play a positive and significant role in the promotion of green development.
