The second National Committee of Ex-perts on Climate Change was established on September 14, 2010, which also marked the opening of the first working meeting of the new committee. Mr. Xie Zhenhua, Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, and Mr. Zheng Guoguang, head of China Meteorological Administration, attended the meeting.

National Committee of Experts on Climate Change is an expert advisory body set up to help address climate change problems in China. Currently, climate change issue continues to enjoy increasing attention and popularity in the world, with competition getting fiercer in the international community regarding climate change issue, esp. the emission control, making it a more complicated situation and tougher task for us to handle. In order to meet the re-quirements of the new situation, personnel ad-justment was done under the guidance of the State Council to the first National Committee of Experts on Climate Change, the second Na-tional Committee of Experts on Climate Change hence was formed. The new Commit-tee is composed of 31 members who are aca-demicians or experts specialized in climate change science, economics, ecology, forestry, agriculture, energy, geology, transportation, ar-chitecture, international relations and other fields. CAE Member Du Xiangwan was elected to be the Chairman of the new Committee while another CAE Member Ding Yihui the Vice Chairman. Other CAE Members Jiang Yi, Meng Wei, Zhang Jianyun and Weng Yuqing became members of the new Committee of Experts.

Chairman Du Xiangwan, first of all, ex-tended his gratitude for being elected to be the Chairman of the Second Committee of Experts. He then expressed his hope that all the mem-bers of the newly-elected committee should be supported by the organizations they work with. Since climate change is a pretty complex issue which requires tremendous amount of work being done about it, Du said, the new Commit-tee will go all out to actively organize multidis-ciplinary advisory studies centered on solutions to climate change, energy conservation and emission reduction strategies and countermea-sures in international negotiations, starting from a scientific understanding of climate change, in order to provide scientific grounds for the maintenance of development rights of China, as well as the establishment of a national image of being a giant country that is integrated and responsible.

Right after the inaugural meeting of the new committee, the first working meeting of the Second Committee of Experts on Climate Change was held.
