Why is China embracing open-source AI? Many assume open source is a way to gain a competitive edge. But Wang Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of Zhejiang Lab, sees it differently.

    In an exclusive interview with Media Unlocked, Wang said that "a prerequisite for open source is that your product must be good. You simply cannot open-source something bad."

    According to Wang, true open source means giving up exclusive control over a model, allowing others to use it, improve it and innovate on top of it. As more open models become available, users gain greater choice and are less likely to be locked into a single technological ecosystem.
