A closing meeting for “Research on the Development of CO₂ Pipeline Transportation under the Vision of Carbon Neutrality,” a strategic research and consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), was held in Beijing on May 8, 2023, with the participation of more than 40 CAE members, experts and project team members.

The CAE members and experts fully acknowledged the achievements of the project team, which conducted systematic and in-depth research on major development issues of CO₂ pipeline. This research will help address the geographical imbalance in China's carbon source and sequestration, support decision-making in the development of the carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and aid in the realisation of the dual carbon goal. The research also offers suggestions on technology, standards, layout and support policies related to CO₂ pipeline transportation.

CCUS serves as the backbone technology to achieve the dual carbon goal, and CO₂ pipeline transportation can be a basic guarantee for extensive CCUS application. The project has analyzed the development of CO₂ pipeline transportation at home and abroad, and conducted forward-looking studies on the development planning across the short-, medium- and long-term stages, providing S&T support to turn China's dual carbon goal into reality, according to the meeting.
