CAE Member Du Xiangwan Met with Russian Guest

CAE Member Du Xiangwan, Director of the National Committee of Experts on Climate Change, met with Dr. Alexander Frolov, Director of Roshydromet (Russian Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Administration), in Beijing on March 17, 2013. Both sides exchanged views as to global climate change as well as its impacts on both China and Russia during the meeting. They also expressed willingness to make more cooperative efforts in these fields in the future. 

Du briefed on efforts that China had made in addressing climate change. He said that China had taken a number of effective measures in aspects like low carbon energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission control, including new energy utilization and the formulation of corresponding policies. Du expressed China’s willingness to cooperate with Russia in addressing climate change and coming up with joint coping strategies. China also agreed to enhance communication and consultation in relevant negotiations, so as to safeguard common interests. 

Dr. Alexander Frolov spoke highly of the efforts China had made in addressing climate change, and agreed to deepen and strengthen collaboration with China in this field, so as to cope with the unfavorable and adverse effects brought by climate change jointly. 

Present also in the meeting were Shen Xiaolong, Deputy Director-General of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), officials from the Department of International Cooperation of CMA, as well as officials from relevant departments of CAE. (By Ding Yangbing, March 2013; translated by Liu Chang)
