Headed by Dr. Jeffery Wadsworth, Battelle President and CEO, who is also a Member of National Academy of Engineering (NAE), USA, a delegation of three from Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle) paid a visit to Chinese Academy of Engineering on September 3, 2010. CAE President Zhou Ji and Vice President Xie Kechang met with the delegation and had a fruitful discussion with the guests.

President Zhou gave a briefing to the guests about the general information and basic facts of CAE, and then expressed his wish for CAE to establish closer ties with Battelle in the future. Zhou suggested that CAE and Battelle should collaborate more by means of co-organizing international conferences, en-hancing academic exchanges, promoting per-sonnel visits exchanges and conducting coop-erative study. Zhou said that CAE is currently working on a China Energy Medium and Long Term Development Strategy Study Advisory Project Report (2030-2050), which involves researches into specialized areas such as solar energy, wind power, nuclear power and coal, in which fields CAE would be willing to conduct joint study with Battelle. Afterwards, Vice President Xie Kechang emphasized on that “making traditional industries new” and “bringing new industries to large scale produc-tion” can not be achieved without science and technological innovation and industrialization, by taking the example of China and US’ joint efforts in the filed of clean and effective utili-zation of fossil energy. Xie also said that there should be spacious room for CAE and Battelle to establish more cooperation for the future, judging from the characteristics and functions of CAE and the demands of our nation.

Dr. Jeffery Wadsworth showed his agree-ment as to what Zhou and Xie said in the meeting, saying that he is very much interested in CAE’s future development and he feels hon-ored to be able to make his contribution to the development of CAE.

Present also in the meeting were Mr. Huang Boyun, Member of CAE and President of Central South University, Mr. Mort Collins, President of Battelle Venture Capital Firm and Mr. Glenn Kline, President and CEO of 360 Intellectual Property Corporation.
