Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) hosted the "International Year of Glass" High-level Forum on Engineering Science and Technology Strategy in Shenzhen on January 7, 2023.

Li Zhongping, Vice President of the CAE, and Reinhard Conradt, President of the Council of the International Commission on Glass (ICG), attended the forum organized by the CAE’s Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Division, the National Innovation Centre for Advanced Glass Materials and others. Participants included 24 academicians and more than 300 experts and scholars from enterprises, universities and industry associations.

Li said the UN declared 2022 as the International Year of Glass, the first such recognition for a single material by the UN, to celebrate the essential role glass has in science, technology, the economy, culture and society. The recognition also demonstrated the significant worldwide influence and outstanding contributions of China-made glass.

Academicians and experts from domestic and international universities, research institutes and companies presented reports at the forum, which was live-streamed on a platform operated by the CAE’s China Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (CKCEST), attracting more than 30,000 online viewers.
