On December 2, 2024, the 6th IKCEST “Belt and Road” International Big Data Competition and the 10th Baidu & Xi’an Jiaotong University Big Data Competition concluded successfully at the university.

Themed “AI Sports Commentary”, this year’s competition challenged participants to analyze football match videos using computer vision technologies. Participants applied skills in video processing, object detection and tracking, and Large Language Models to generate AI-powered sports commentary for football matches.

With the engaging and challenging topic, the competition attracted 3,997 teams comprising a total of 4,634 participants, marking an 11.7% increase compared to last year and setting a new participation record. Contestants represented 430 domestic universities and 22 overseas institutions. Notably, a 13-year-old student from Hong Kong taught himself programming and artificial intelligence, ultimately winning third prize—the first time in the competition’s 10-year history that a middle school student has advanced to the finals.

Following intense preliminary and semi-final rounds, 17 teams stood out and earned their places in the final rankings, presenting their solutions during the on-site final. After the award ceremony, Liu Chuan, Solution Director of Baidu’s Intelligent Cloud Sports Industry, delivered a technical presentation to the attending guests, teachers and students.
