ICEE Holds a Working Meeting of Directors
On the afternoon of July 14, 2022, the UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE) held a working meeting of directors at the office in the Main Building of Tsinghua University. As an on-site occasion supplemented with online links, the meeting was attended by Prof. WU Qidi, Director of ICEE, Prof. YUAN Si, Executive Director of ICEE, Prof. WANG Sunyu, Deputy Director and Secretary General of ICEE, as well as Dr. QIAO Weifeng, Dr. XU Lihui and Dr. SHEN Ye. Prof. YUAN Si presided over the meeting.
Prof. WANG Sunyu introduced the key issues such as the evaluation procedure of UNESCO Category II Centres. Dr. QIAO Weifeng reported the academic research in the first half of the year, and Dr. SHEN Ye reported the issues such as preparation of the international journal of engineering education, cooperative development of excellent engineer courses, etc.
At the meeting
Prof. WU Qidi pointed out that ICEE undertakes much work in consultation and research projects, and academic exchanges. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, ICEE overcame many difficulties and achieved good results during the pandemic. She hoped that more efforts should be made to do well in significant research projects and strive to achieve high-level research results to facilitate the development of engineering education. Prof. YUAN Si pointed out that the evaluation of UNESCO Category II Centres is very important for reviewing past work and planning future development. Although the evaluation notice has not been received yet, the secretariat should be assigned a particular person to take charge of the task and prepare relevant documents in advance. As for the significant change in the members of the ICEE Governing Board, it is necessary to accelerate a scheme and communicate on the work with Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In addition, it is of great significance to launch the international journal of engineering education and jointly develop excellent engineering courses. However, we should be realistic and figure out our strengths before acting. Besides, we should fully study the feasibility first, develop concrete schemes, and make decisions after discussion.
Other important issues were also discussed at the meeting.
