In accordance with the Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement signed between the China Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, the Division of Chemical, Metal-lurgical and Materials Engineering of CAE or-ganized a CAE Members’ Consultation Tour on “Iron & Steel and Petrochemical Projects” in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, from April 26 to 28, 2013, upon invitation of the Zhanjiang People’s Government. 
 

The event was attended by a total of nine CAE Members, including Xu Kuangdi, Honor-ary Chairman of the CAE, Gan Yong, Vice President of the CAE, Yin Ruiyu, Wang Jiming, Zhang Shourong, Yuan Qingtang, Wang Yide, Wang Guodong and Xu Delong, seven experts in the fields of iron and steel, and petrochemi-cal engineering, Xu Lejiang, Chairman of Baosteel Group Corporation Limited, Zhang Jianhua, Senior Vice President of Sinopec, Wang Zhongbing, Mayor of Zhanjiang City, as well as other leaders and experts from Zhan-jiang People’s Government, Baosteel Group and Sinopec. 
 

On the afternoon of the 26th, members on the consultation tour conducted field trips to the “Zhanjiang Iron & Steel Base of Baosteel” and the “Sinopec Sino-Kuwaiti Refinery and Petrochemical Integration Project” in the East Island of Zhanjiang City. On the 27th, they at-tended the “Advisory Meeting on Iron & Steel and Petrochemical Circular Economy in East Island”, co-chaired by CAE Members Xu Kuangdi, Yin Ruiyu and Wang Jiming. 

At the advisory meeting, Wang Zhongbing, Mayor of the Zhanjiang City, Gan Yong, Vice President of CAE, Xu Lejiang, Chairman of Baosteel Group, and Zhang Jianhua, Senior Vice President of Sinopec, de-livered speeches. They extended warm wel-come to the visiting team led by Xu Kuangdi, who also expressed conviction and determina-tion to build up a good East Island Circular Economy Demonstration Area. 

Sheng Genghong, Project Leader of the “Zhanjiang Iron & Steel Base of Baosteel”, and Chen Xiaowen, Project Leader of the “Sinopec Sino-Kuwaiti Refinery and Petrochemical Inte-gration Project”, briefed on general information and progress of the two projects. Shi Xianping, Vice Chairman of the China National Petroleum & Chemical Planning Institute (NPCPI), gave a briefing on the development plans for circular economy in the East Island of Zhanjiang City. Members on the consultation tour joined in-depth discussions centered on the two projects as well as the development plans for the Circular Economy Demonstration Area, putting forward a number of constructive comments and suggestions.
