CAE and Tibet government convene symposium

The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Government jointly held a symposium in Beijing on September 26, 2021 to renew of their strategic agreement and efforts for major national strategic tasks and high-quality development cooperation, among other aspects. CAE President Li Xiaohong and Meng Xiaoling, Vice Governor of Tibet, attended the meeting that also included CAE Vice President He Huawu as well as officials from Department Three at the CAE and the S&T Department of Tibet.

Li welcomed Meng and his delegation, noting that Tibet has made outstanding efforts in improving its S&T innovation capacity and implementing its innovation-driven development strategy, making headway in promoting high-quality development.

The CAE will further its cooperation with Tibet centered on its needs as it gives full play to the advantages of CAE members and their findings by carrying out strategic research and consultation, as well as academic forums and study tours. By supporting scientific decisions with scientific consultation and guiding scientific development with scientific decisions, ecological protection and industrial development in Tibet will be advanced, driving high-quality development in Tibet in the new historic era.

On behalf of the Tibet government Meng expressed his heartfelt thanks to the CAE for its support to the autonomous region's stable development and elaborated on Tibet’s economic and social efforts, as well as S&T innovation and high-calibre talent development. He said he hopes that CAE members can leverage the expertise across industries, departments and disciplines and conduct theoretical research and technological breakthroughs, in order to provide technologies and talents for key initiatives, such as the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, water conservancy and hydropower development in the Lower Yalu-Tsangpo River region, ecological civilization, exploration and evaluation of green resources, green industrial development, research into high altitude medicine and the characteristic tourism resources along the Sichuan-Tibet Railway.
