German Experts Attended Sino-German Smart City Workshop in Ningbo

Sino-German Smart City Workshop, also the Second Working Meeting for the project team on “Strategic Studies into Smart City Construction and Promotion in China”, was held in Ningbo on September 10, 2012. Prof. Ulrich J. Glotzbach from the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), Prof. Michael Dowling from the University of Regensburg, along with Prof. Gerhard Stryi-Hipp from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Germany, came to attend the symposium upon invitation from CAE, and gave thematic presentations as to cutting-edge technologies and hot topics such as the internet of things, cloud computing as well as the business model for smart cities.

 

Xu Kuangdi, Vice Chairman of the Tenth CPPCC National Committee, also the Honorary Chairman of CAE Governing Board and the project advisor, addressed the opening of the workshop. The event was co-chaired by Pan Yunhe, Executive Vice President of CAE, also the project chair, and Mao Guanglie, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, also the vice chair of the project. The workshop was attended by over 100 people, including 13 CAE Members like Liu Yunjie, Xu Qingrui, Yu Yixin, Cen Kefa, Wu Cheng and Li Guojie, leaders from Ningbo Municipal People’s Government, members on teams for various sub-projects of this project, as well as representatives from Commissions of Economy and Information Technology of Beijing Municipality, Shanghai Municipality and Zhejiang Province.

 

The workshop focused on major engineering science and technology issues facing the process of constructing and promoting smart cities in China in the future, aiming at learning advanced experiences from developed European countries such as Germany in the field of smart city construction. This workshop also attached great importance to the combination of theoretical knowledge and practice, thus promoting the initial results achieved in previous stages to be verified through practice as soon as possible.

 

During the workshop, German experts also attended the Second China (Ningbo) Smart City Technology and Application Exposition. (By Zhu Yu, September 2012; translated by Liu Chang)
