Successful 2022 Liaison Webinar for CAE Foreign Members
Chen Jianfeng, Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), joined 42 foreign members of the CAE in a liaison webinar on January 28 hosted by the academy and co-organized by the CAE Department of International Cooperation, the Jiangxi Academy of Sciences and the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province.
Chen congratulated new foreign members elected in 2021 and extended his New Year’s wishes. He said that the CAE is committed to integrating into the global network for innovation in engineering science and technology, and actively participates in various forms of international exchanges. He added that the CAE invites its foreign members to vigorously engage in academic activities organized by the academy and offer suggestions for the development of China’s engineering and the CAE as well.
Tian Qi, Director-General of the CAE Department of International Cooperation, and Ding Ning, Director of the Academic and Publishing Office of the CAE Department Three, briefed attendees on activities in 2022 for foreign members including high-end international forums and academic publications.
Song Dexiong, President of the Jiangxi Academy of Sciences, and Pan Jun, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province, illustrated measures to promote international science and technology cooperation and attract CAE foreign members to carry out innovation and entrepreneurship locally. Song and Pan also invited CAE foreign members to visit their provinces and to seek mutual development.
The foreign members spoke actively at the webinar and shared their suggestions on the development of engineering science and technology in China and the work of the CAE. They also engaged in lively discussions on the common challenges faced by mankind such as climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic and the training of engineers.
The symposium laid the foundation for the CAE’s work with foreign members in the future and strengthened cooperation between the CAE and local science and technology departments and research institutions.
