Eight CAE Members Won 2012 HLHL Awards

The awarding ceremony of 2012 Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation was held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on the afternoon of October 29, 2012. State Councilor Liu Yandong, Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, also Minister of Science and Technology (MOST), and Xu Rigan, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of engineering (CAE), attended the ceremony and presented awards to the winners. 

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation is the largest private scientific and technological foundation in China, also the most influential non-governmental prize in science and technology in China. It awards Chinese scientists in three categories, the Science and Technology Achievement Award, the Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Science and Technology Innovation Award.

Liu Yandong congratulated the award-winning scientists on their achievements, who also expressed thanks to founders as well as donors for the HLHL Foundation. A total of 50 Chinese scientists received Science and Technology Progress Award or Science and Technology Innovation Award this year, while the Science and Technology Achievement Award remained vacant. Eight CAE Members were honored with Science and Technology Progress Award, accounting for 16% of all winners. They are:

Medicine & Pharmacy Award: Xie Lixin

Mechanical & Electrical Technology Award: Xue Yusheng, Jin Donghan, Yang Shaoqing,

Electronic & Information Technology Award: Duan Baoyan

Engineering Construction Technology Award: Liu Shanghe, Ma Hongqi,

Resource & Environmental Protection Technology Award: Liu Jiaping

The Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation, as a social welfare fund, was established in Hong Kong on March 30, 1994, with the donation of patriotic financial industrialists Ho Sin-Hang, Leung Kau-Kui, Ho Tim and Lee Guo-Wei, aiming at rewarding excellent scholars for their scientific and technological breakthroughs annually, encouraging respect for knowledge and motivating talented people. Since its founding, HLHL Foundation has already awarded 1002 outstanding scientists for the past 19 years. Among them, 29 distinguished scientists received the Science and Technology Achievement Award, 852 scientists won the Science and Technology Progress Award, while 121 scientists won the Science and Technology Innovation Award.
