The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) jointly held an exchange event in Hangzhou City on July 25-26, 2023.

On the afternoon of July 25, Li Xiaohong, President of the CAE, and Wang Chen, Vice President of the CAE, held talks with a delegation led by Kinam Kim, President of the NAEK. Both parties agreed to further strengthen cooperation and establish a regular academic exchange mechanism between the two academies. On July 26, Li and Kim spoke at the opening ceremony of an academic seminar on "Artificial Intelligence Development and Application” held between the two sides.

Li said that AI, as a strategic technology leading a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, is becoming a crucial driver for societal progress and sustained economic prosperity. He emphasized the need to promote openness and cooperation in the field of AI. Kim noted the significant impacts from the rapid development of science and technology such as AI on society and the onset of the digital transformation era. He expressed his hope for strengthening exchanges between the two academies and enhancing friendly relations between the two countries.

Wang Chen and Vice President Jung Hee Song of the NAEK co-hosted the opening ceremony. Several academy members and experts from both countries presented reports and discussed frontier AI topics. CAE member Wang Jian, also Director of Zhejiang Lab, and Professor Inkyu Lee from Korea University co-chaired the academic presentation and exchange session that attracted 60 experts and scholars from the two academies.

On the afternoon of July 26, the NAEK delegation visited two AI companies in Hangzhou, BrainCo and Alibaba Cloud, and engaged in discussions with the companies' technical staff.
